About Us

Impactful Gifts is a social enterprise created by Sharing Our Cultures Inc., a not-for-profit organization promoting the value of cultural diversity and inclusion in Newfoundland and Labrador for over 20 years.

We started this venture to help newcomer high school students integrate into our local community. This gives them a sense of belonging, while providing opportunities for them to get hands-on training, Canadian work experience, communication skills, and financial literacy. Students receive remuneration from the sale of the bags.

Impactful Gifts specializes in textiles and all products are uniquely handcrafted by high school students from around the world, currently residing in St. John’s, NL. We are on a mission to impact hearts and positively change lives.

Social Impact

The lack of Canadian work experience, combined with language barriers, leaves newcomer students at a disadvantage when it comes to developing job skills and gaining meaningful employment.

At Impactful Gifts, we believe that we can break down these barriers for newcomer high school students by providing a safe and supportive environment for them to learn and develop these essential skills:

Sewing skills through hands-on training
Transferable skills through practical work experience
Employability skills and how to create a resume, cover letter, and prepare for interviews
Business skills and entrepreneurship
Digital and Financial literacy
Communication skills while learning about other cultures and developing friendships

We believe that these skills are vital in helping newcomer students integrate into the community, giving them a sense of belonging, while creating an opportunity for sociocultural engagement.
